FAM:

F - framing/shot sizes

A - angles

M - movement

Close up shot

- shows facial expressions/emotions

- making someone seem important/dominant

Long shot

- shows body language

- allows us to see a person in relation to their surroundings

Medium shot

- shows facial expressions/emotions and body language

Two shot

- shows relationship between people

Establishing shot

- making the setting clear e.g., place, time, weather etc

Low angle

- dramatic

- makes people look large, tall, dominant, powerful etc

High angle

- making someone seem vulnerable, weak, small, innocent

- positions the audience to feel sympathy

Straight angle/eye level shot

- helping the audience to relate to that person

- positions the audience to feel empathy

Canted angle

- making people or situations seem disorientated chaotic, drink, drugged, dizzy etc

Tracking shot

- used when the character is moving

- show more than one thing in a scene, or how different things are arranged or related

- showing someone's journey

Handheld shot

- action, drama, fast paced scenes, urgently puts the audience in the scene

Shallow focus

- making someone seem important

- drawing the audience's attention to something

Deep focus

- shows surroundings

- representing everyone as important

Pull focus

- changes where the audience is looking, draws our attention to something else that is important

Bird eye view shot

- seeing something in its larger surroundings

- making something look small or insignificant

Zoom in/out

- zoom in - focuses our attention on someone

- zoom out - to show the bigger picture

Trombone shot

- dramatic reactions/major events

Pan left/right

- show where something or someone is going, to show something just out of shot etc

Tilt up/down

- shows the whole of an object or person, a bit at a time

- making it seem like someone/the audience is 'looking' at something e.g., objectification

Crane up/down

- seeming dramatic

- drawing attention to someone's relation

Angles

- eye level

- dutch

- low angle

- high angle

- over the shoulder

- close up

- 360 degree
